So where did the name Copalli come from? The Copal tree is native to Belize and is known for producing a sap which is collected and used as incense. Burning copal has been used in ancient Maya and Aztec ceremonies as a ritual offering to the gods and in modern days as a blessing and a spiritual cleansing. Copal also has healing properties and is used topically to ease skin irritations and muscle soreness.
